I love it when couples bring their “fur babies” to engagement shots. Every one always have a good time and make the whole shot more relax and fun. Norman is Kath and Ryan’s “fur baby”. He is such a cutie. Just look at that face and those big puppy eyes!

Eden’s 1st Birthday Party

I know it sounds really lame, but it is always such a privilege to be invited to photograph private events. Just feel so lucky to be invited and share special moments with people’s private life.

I recently met Angeline and her little family at her baby girl Eden’s 1st birthday party. They were a joy to photograph and what is better then three little girls! We had time for some fun family photo at the park, also Angeline wanted all her friends and family to have photos there too. What a great idea!

Asian inspired potatoe dumplings

Dumplings always makes me think of family time. I love how our family would gather on Sunday afternoons, all sit down and make dumplings then spend the next three hours boiling, frying and eating them. MW tells me our family have the longest meals ever.

Mum is always in charge of the fillings because she is the iron chef of our family. Us kids are just workers, here to make lots and lots of dumplings. (They freeze really well btw).

My favourite way is pan fying them. Similar to Gyoza from Japanese restaurants. Gyoza are usually made form mince pork and beef but our vegetarian version has potatoe, peas, corn, lettuce and ginger in it. It’s a totally White -dude version. I think we used way too much potatoe in the filling and it felt like an Asian Samosa! I think we will make tomatoe/corn ones next time.

Brought the dumpling sheets from Asian Supermarket. You can get them at major supermarkets some times, look in the fresh pasta section. Our way of frying them is similar to pan frying meaty ones but using less time because our vegeterian filling is already cooked. First, put a little bit of oil in a non stick pan (must be non stick) then put the dumplings in bottom side down. Fry it in the oil for 1 min then pour enough water into the pan until it just covers the bottom. Put the lid on. Steaming them in there with the water for 4 mins or so. Then take the lid off and let it pan fry further checkign the bottom until you are happy. As MW know, I like mine extra “burn-ie”!

Outside Kimi

Kimi is an indoor cat. Many reasons for that:

crazy cats shouldn’t be out killing native birds
we use to live on a main road
we dont want KIMI to get freaked out meeting other cats.
she is clumsy

But at mom’s house its well fenced and Kimi loves to go out there and put her face in spiders webs and lick weeds. She does love it and it is part of her DNA to be outside but I think responsible ownership of your pets is to keep them and other animals safe.

Veg pizza with Soy cheese

We live near Sunnybank. Known to some as “asian-wonderland”. It is the true China Town of Brisbane. And I am Chinese so take my word for it ok. No big secret Chinese people LOVE to eat. I remember an uncle telling me as a kid if the animal has four legs and its back face the sky, then you can eat it. Gross I know.

A lot of Chinese in Brisbane live around here because of easy access to great food and the variety is awesome. So after a trip to the dentist the other day and feeling sorry for myself I wanted to go and get take out as a treat. It was really not difficult convincing MW. I am certain before he met me he lived on mostly pizza, take out and left overs from his sister’s house!

But some how the story ended up with us going home and making pizza. We really really wanted to eat at Sunnybank but after walking around looking at all the menus, it was really difficult to find something without meat! Hot pot asian greens with tofu is awesome but I just didnt feel like it AGAIN.

MW had real cheese on his but I tried soy cheese on mine, its the first time I have baked with soy cheese and I must say I dont like it. I think its nicer in sandwiches. But I think the truth is having lots of fresh ingredients on the pizza meant I didnt really need to have cheese on it any way.

So in case you want some inspiration for your next pizza we did this:

Whole meal Pizza base from super market
Tomatoe paste
sliced mushroom
cherry tomatoe and spinach.
Soy cheese (optional, just put more tomatoe I’d say!)
then top with more fresh spinach when finished

OMG – MW wants a dog.

Kimi does’t hide the fact she dislikes MW. She will take his “lovin” but only on Kimi’s terms of course. But when it comes to who she blames for shortage of food, global warming, corporate greed and lack of clean litter – MW is the one responsible.

It would be nice if those two eventually got along but I have given up all hope after the last two vet visits. So no surprise then that MW, is talking about getting a dog. I know MW has this dream where we would see a dog on pet rescue, they would meet and then cut to montage of happy days at the park, beach walks, making fun of the cat..etc

I am not sure how all this will pan out with a bi polar cat but I know Kimi is not going to like it.

Kimi – walking on sunshine

After the severe thunder-storm last night, the weather continue to be humid and hot. They said Summer is gone!! They Lied.

Kimi’s typical day involves a lot of sleeping any way and in this heat she likes to alternate sleeping spots. It’s so funny when she just spreads herself out on the floor. She does this thing which looks like she is walking on an invisible road.

Kimi, you are a constant comic relief around here. Yes, its is very hot and I might join you spread out on the floor shortly.

Spring time Jasmine

I think its nearly Spring time in Australia. Its hard to tell in Brisbane. Or is it hard to tell in the southern Hemisphere in general? Scratch that, I am told today is the last day of Summer. Yah!

A bunch a Jasmine started to bloom out the front. Someone told me once if you plant them out the front yard you will always come home to smelling something nice.

There has been some sad news lately and looking at these lovely little white flowers reminds me that life is so fragile. Like the latest New Zealand earth quake, where lives are forever changed in seconds. 60 seconds of earth quake – thousands of lives forever changed.

Go home, hug the people/animals you love. Take the time to smell the fragrance in life.

Fast Tempeh Burrito

Fast dinners are becoming a bit of a theme for us. MW loves Mexican food. Or at least what we understand in Australia as Mexican food.

Not much is faster then Burrito. Fry up Tempeh strip in the burrito seasoning (not too much it’s really salty), cut up some salad stuff. Roll up all the ingredients and BAM, you have dinner.

Cat Chicken

Kimi loves to sit like a hen sometimes. Its very cute. While I suffer from “OMG, my cat is the cleverest cat in the world” syndrome, I believe this is not unique. And of course chickens do it too.

I would never eat my cat, so why is it ok to eat a chicken? Cant stop thinking about it.
